Slowing Down: Life is a Stroll

“It is always the simple things that change our lives. And these things never happen when you are looking for them to happen. Life will reveal answers at the pace life wishes to do so. You feel like running, but life is on a stroll. This is how God does things.”

Donald Miller
Through Painted Deserts

What simple things have changed your life? How has slowing down your life revealed God's plans and purposes to you?

  1. Recently, I decided to take a few weeks off of work to help cope with my anxiety and to focus on my therapy. I have been learning to live with my anxiety and to practice mindfulness in my living. When I am anxious, I simply say "I am anxious," or make other observations about different sensations in my body. This has really helped my anxiety not spin out of control. The slow pace is not something I'm used to, but it's been so helpful.

God has revealed a lot to me about how he works. Recently, he taught me about how he prunes the bad or dead parts of our life away to make room for the fruitful growing we have to do. I wrote about it on my blog.

    1. I love what you said about acknowledging your emotions. That's something I've been learning as well! It helps us distance ourself a bit and be more level-headed when making decisions.

So glad you're learning all of those things. It sounds like the Lord is doing some powerful things in your life right now. Thanks for reading!

  3. The balance of playing hard (surfing, hanging with friends, doing things I love) and then working less, but harder is one I'm working towards. Part of our chief purpose is to enjoy God and the good gifts He gives us. I'm learning to never feel bad for having fun daily! It helps me be happier and even be more productive with the tasks I have each day. Great thought today - thanks!

  5. Ladies, thank you for pointing this out. For the past month, I have been forced to slow down...but God made it clear that He would use this time for more than just physical healing. He has revealed so much to me, beyond my expectations, that He could have if I had not slowed down and looked deeply within myself. I depart from home tomorrow to return to "real life", healed and strengthened spiritually, knowing God used this time so specifically. Thank you for these words.
